Sequence of Packing
Start with the most common or small items first: ornaments, books, glass, china, loose items, pictures, bedding and toys. Pack lighter items on top of heavy ones.
Prepare your packing area around waist height to avoid stretching and risk of injury to your back
Make up your first carton and fold the tops over, then make up another carton and sit this on top of the first. This will allow you to place items in the box without over stretching. Once full replace the empty bottom carton with the packed carton and start again.
Add a layer of dunnage in the bottom of your carton ( tissue, paper etc ).
Wrap heavy items using paper "Chip shop style" or use tissue or bubble wrap.
All items must be packed efficiently, tightly and any gaps must be filled with extra dunnage (i.e paper, tissue etc)
Most items should be packed upright (follow our packing tutorials)
Place dunnage between layers giving each a top and a bottom.
Cartons should be full with no space for the contents to move (over fill the top of the carton with dunnage before folding the carton flaps over to seal, this will compact the contents and prevent damage)
Full cartons should be taped closed (use two to three strips across the middle and the edges)
Label the carton with the contents list and which room the effects were packed in.
Remember to regularly check the weight of your carton as you fill it.
